Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
The world was torn by war for a hundred years.
The fire nation devastated the Earth Kingdom, Water Tribes, and Air Nomads, but everything changed when the Avatar returned.
With his friends, he was able to defeat the tyrannical Fire Lord and restore balance to the world.
Seventy years have passed since then.
The Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes have been rebuilt with help from the Avatar and the Fire Nation.
However, all is not well.
Since the Avatar's death, there have been anti-bending revolts in each of the nations, but particularly in Republic City, a new metropolis in the center of the Fire Nation.
No revolts have done much yet, but with time they could grow stronger and pose a threat to the peace and order established by the Avatar.
This newly recuperated world has come a long way in the past seventy years, but it needs a new Avatar to save it from spiraling downward into turmoil once again.

Victory
Mako dodged the trail of blazing fire.
Exhaling, he launched an attack of his own. Korra dispelled the fiery punch and moved in on him again.
Mako had been holding his own in this sparring match with Korra for around ten minutes or so. Since the Pro Bending season was over and the arena was shut down, Mako, Bolin and Korra had a lot of spare time on their hands, which would have been otherwise been occupied with training and matches.
Korra had taken advantage of this and demanded that Mako and Bolin teach her some of the new modern fighting techniques that were so commonly used today in Fire and Earthbending. Bolin had immediately agreed, but

A KATAANG FANFICTION: CHAPTER 13
SCARS
Aang opened his eyes, surprised at how stiff his eyelids seemed to be. Disoriented, he stared at the ceiling. Groggily rolling his eyes around, he gathered in the strange room around him. White walls and tiles seemed to give it an unlively feel, and he suddenly realized that he was in an infirmary. Frowning, he attempted to lift his head. Gasping, he immediately dropped it when a stabbing pain pulsed through his temples.
He tried to move his arm, but realized that something warm was pinning it to his side. The warm something twitched slightly when he pulled, and he gently turned his head.

Momentous
He's old and he knows it. He feels it in the way his bones ache on cold mornings and how he isn't as flexible as he was.
It's been two years since Aang died.
He waits for word from the Water Tribes, and Foggy Swap now that they know it's full of waterbenders, about the new Avatar but he knows he has years until they are certain. He wonders about the new Avatar and if he (or she) will be anything like Aang. He sometimes shares these worries with Katara.
He's going to visit her on the anniversary of Aang's death. Losing a loved one is something he is far too familiar with.

EDIT 12/4/11: This is now irrelevant. If you saw the leaked Korra intro, you know that this is completely superfluous and imaginary, but if you didn't, feel free to enjoy the superfluousness and imaginativeness and envision it however you like. c:
I'd post a link to the actual opening sequence, but alas, it was taken down...
</edit>
I was pondering whether Avatar: The Legend of Korra would have the same style intro as Avatar: The Last Airbender, and then I was pondering what the lines would be, and then my over-creative and over-procrastinating mind came up with this.
Decided to upload this because, well, it counts as fan fiction, doesn't it? And right now I only have one other thing under "fan fiction".
I really wish this could be center aligned. Darn my non-subscription!
My statement that Republic City lies within the Fire Nation is purely imagination. I have no idea where it lies, but the FN is my best guess. Either that or the Earth Kingdom. An abandoned Air Temple is also a possibility, but a less likely one, in my opinion.
EDIT: Republic City is actually in the Earth Kingdom, but it used to be a Fire Nation colony, so it's a little bit of both, I guess.
Oh, and yes, "...but everything changed when the Avatar returned." is, in fact, a direct rip-off of "Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked." XD

Avatar: The Legend of Korra belongs to Mike, Bryan, and Nickelodeon.
